ANGO-AMERICAN PLATINUM AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HOSPITALITY
Thirty deserving students selected from various communities in and around Rustenburg where Anglo-American has operations, have been awarded all expenses paid scholarships to study in various hospitality disciplines at Mafikeng Hotel School. These scholarships include boarding and lodging and generous monthly allowances.
Engagements and negotiations between Anglo-American and the Mafikeng Hotel School Management begun in August 2011. With the majority of students being women, it goes to show that women continue to respond positively to empowerment opportunities arising from various sectors of business and government. The students begun their programme of study last week. During their welcome and induction, the Rector of the Hotel Schools, Joseph Akwa indicated that they were being registered at the institution to study at a very exciting time in the history of Mafikeng Hotel School, when the institution is making great strides towards creating a center of excellence.
“Consider yourselves extremely fortunate to have been given this rare opportunity to study at a prestigious institution in the Province like the Mafikeng Hotel School. All you need is to be focused, disciplined and not to get detracted from the purpose for which you have been awarded the scholarships. Your commitment to the purpose will justify the huge investment which Anglo-American has been bold to make in you. Any failures on your part is likely to deprive others similar opportunities and privileges into the future”, he said.
The scholarship award is part of Anglo-American Platinum’s national Social Responsibility Programme, thus investing in the youth from neighbouring communities in which their operations are located. The 30 students will undergo two years of intensive exposure in the various disciplines of Hospitality Management studies that will lead to the award of national diplomas.
